New dashboard launched with data on crimes, reports and more
The Northville Police Department has launched a new public-facing dashboard on the city website. This new dashboard will present data and information on the following six categories: 1) calls for service, 2) citations, 3) arrests, 4) citizen complaints, 5) officer training hours and 6) use of force statistics (items 4-6 will be added soon).
The police department uses CLEMIS, software offered by Oakland County, as its records management system. (CLEMIS is the acronym for Oakland County's Courts and Law Enforcement Management Information System.) The new program features Arx Alert Software, from Altovista Technology, LLC, which converts CLEMIS reports into useable monthly data and displays it on an easy-to-view dashboard. Data displayed is derived from persons who interacted with the department’s police officers from 2019 to the present. Only the data of the various categories, not subject names, are displayed on the dashboard.
Arx Alert Software is intended to increase transparency of the department and build trust between the police department and the public by clearly showing data online that both parties can view, analyze and act on.
Note: In the arrest portal, custodial arrests are broken down into two categories – “on view” and “taken into custody.” An “on view” arrest means that police observed the person arrested for unlawful behavior, while “taken into custody” means that the police arrested the person on a criminal bench or arrest warrant issued by a judge or prosecutor. In the “calls for service” portal, NC stands for Northville City.
The category of “cited” means that the officer issued the subject a citation for the criminal behavior and then released the subject from custody. The impact of COVID-19 in 2020 decreased officer activity numbers during that year as people quarantined at home and practiced social distancing.
