Openings exist for volunteers to serve on the Liquor License Review Committee, Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board, Housing Commission, and The Senior Advisory Commission. Some positions require specific qualifications as stated below.
The Liquor License Review Committee (LLRC) reviews the issuance and transfer of class C-type liquor license and permit applications and makes recommendations to City Council.
The LLRC composition is two City Council members and one city resident who does not hold a liquor license or have a financial or vested interest in a liquor license or liquor establishment. Meetings are held as needed at City Hall. Members serve a two-year term.
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board is seeking to fill two vacancies. Members need to have a vested interest within the DDA boundaries.
The purpose of the DDA is to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the greater Northville area through economic and physical revitalization of the downtown business district. The DDA coordinates and supports activities to promote the economic viability of the downtown area. It advocates for a safe, clean and attractive central business district. A strong downtown center attracts people and new businesses, and enhances the quality of the life for the entire community.
Information about the board composition and responsibilities is available on the DDA website. The DDA Board of Directors meets at 8 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month at City Hall. The term is for four years.
The Housing Commission sets policy and provides guidance for the management of Allen Terrace, an apartment community for independent senior citizens aged 62 and over.
The commission currently has openings for two members who serve a term of five years. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at Allen Terrace, 401 High Street.
The Senior Advisory Commission serves as an advisory board for the Northville community’s senior services and programs and currently has an opening for one city resident. Commissioners act as a liaison between the community and the Senior Services program, managed by the Northville Parks & Recreation Department. Commissioners also advocate for the community and its governmental bodies on senior issues.
Applicants should have experience or involvement with senior programs. The nine-member board includes three members who are city residents. Each member serves a three-year term.
Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. at the Community Center, 303 W. Main.
Applications for all of these volunteer positions are available on the city website or at the City Clerk’s office, 215 W. Main Street, Northville, MI, 48167. Those who serve on boards whose terms are expiring and want to continue to serve need to reapply. The City Clerk’s office will contact all applicants about interview dates and times with the Selection Committee. Applications of those not chosen will be kept on file for future consideration. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, Aug. 30.
