Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is charged with the powers and duties provided in the Michigan Planning Enabling Act.  Its mission includes development of the Master Plan and Master Plan updates, review and act on site plan developments and special land use requests, review and make recommendations to City Council on all rezoning requests, and review and recommend amendments to the Zoning Ordinance.

The Commission consists of nine members, that are City residents and qualified electors.  Membership shall be representative of important segments and geography of the City to the extend practicable.  Members serve three-year terms, and are appointed by the Mayor, subject to approval by a majority vote of the City Council.  For more information contact the Building Department at 248-449-9902.


Application Scheduling

Applications are not placed on a Planning Commission agenda until they are complete and all required materials and reviews have been received.

The Community Development Director will review each application and supporting documentation to determine completeness. If an application is incomplete or required review comments are outstanding, the item will not be scheduled for a Planning Commission meeting until all necessary information is provided.

Submission of an application does not guarantee placement on a specific meeting agenda.

Application Review
The Community Development Director reviews applications to determine if they are complete and then provides a review to the applicant by email prior to the scheduled meeting. Incomplete applications may be deferred to a future Planning Commission meeting based upon when necessary information is received.

Northville City Hall, 215 W. Main Street, Northville, Michigan unless otherwise noted. The meeting location is noted on the Planning Commission meeting agenda.

2026 meeting dates
Generally, the Planning Commission meets the first and third Tuesday each month at 6:30 p.m.
